Great progress has been made on the Whistler and Blackcomb terminal buildings. These giant buildings, located adjacent to the Rendezvous Lodge on Blackcomb and the Roundhouse Lodge on Whistler, will house the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola. Critical components arrive after 11 week journey from Switzerland to Whistler

Five cable reels for Whistler Blackcomb’s PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola are in the homestretch of a 18,000 kilometre/11,000 mile journey as they arrive by train in Whistler June 17. After traveling over 11 weeks via truck, barge, boat and rail; the final leg of the journey consists of a literal push from the Whistler valley to the Blackcomb PEAK 2 PEAK lift station located at 1860 metres/6,102 feet.

The PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola cable reels touched down on North American soil at the Port of Vancouver USA late last night after making their way across the Atlantic and through the Panama Canal on the Star Indiana vessel. Today, they were loaded onto a train en route to Whistler and are expected to arrive on June 16 at 2pm.
The Port of Vancouver USA owns the largest mobile harbour crane in North America. The port’s heavy-lift mobile harbour crane – a Liebherr LHM500 – is capable of lifting 140 metric tons, or the equivalent of two space shuttles.
