Alberta Baby - Calgary & Banff
Toaster time meant an 8:30am departure from Calgary. Tips was freakin’ the living daylights out of us by insisting we were faced with an 11-hr drive ahead of us. Luckily this readjusted quickly as we set out at a decent pace.
As anyone who has seen them can attest, the beautiful Rockies are without a doubt one of the great natural wonders of the world. Dola was explaining to them her role as a manmade wonder as we pulled into Banff, Canada’s first National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Dave refers to dealing with Toaster and me as “herding cats.” We choose to be oblivious to precisely what it is that he’s insinuating, but we get the gist… We made no exception this beautiful morning as we leapt from the Gus, and bolted in opposite directions, to capture that epic shot of Dola on Banff Ave. Michelle followed in order to save the shot and direct us in where to stand as Dave pulled Dola by.
She looked mighty fine cruising that street, and it was apparent that she was as mesmerized by her surroundings as we were. It must have been pretty peaceful inside Gus without us, as for a brief moment our trusty steed with Dola in tow, appeared to have made a run for the hills.
As the harsh realization that we may have been ditched started kicking in, never fear – Gus reappears. We sheepishly jump in, and head over to the iconic and historic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Parked at the front of this gorgeous building, one could not help but contemplate the history and stories formed during its lengthy lifespan…
Just as we were doing so, we were abruptly brought back to 2008 as a security guard approached, questioning why we found it necessary to have stopped directly in front of a No Parking sign. Aw, sorry dude – our giant gondola must have been hiding it from us.
