Day 2 - Ottawa Bound..eventually

Our nations capital - Ottawa Following our awesome Canada AM appearance, we trucked-on to our next destination, and our nation’s capital, Ottawa. High after a strong start to our media pursuit, someone must have momentarily glanced away from our gas gauge, as we suddenly found ourselves stranded – on the side of the 401 – somewhere outside of Napanee, famous for being home to Avril Lavigne … However, not all was lost, as this was our first chance to test out our trusty On Star service. Spot on. Seriously- everybody needs this service in their vehicle.

As we connected with a friendly voice somewhere out in satellite-world and in less than twenty minutes of us hiding out from the pouring rain in Gus, our by now beloved GM Yukon Hybrid (who was extremely embarrassed and upset that we had allowed her to let us down), a nice little man arrived with a jerry can of gas which would allow us to make it to the next gas station. Mental note: Must purchase jerry can when passing next Canadian Tire.

Following this somewhat minor delay to our journey, we proceeded forward to Ottawa. As we pulled into town, we were all awestruck by the beauty of the architecture – with rows of stunning brown-stone buildings, we were pretty stoked to find out that the most grandiose and prestigious looking of all of them was our hotel, the very regal Fairmont Chateau Laurier. Well, the view was grand until it was blocked by a kind of stuck Gus, with Dola innocently in tow… Turns out the suggestion that had been made for us to pull into valet parking wasn’t the best one. Very quickly a kind bellman, Gord, ran out into the street and stopped traffic for us, then jumped in to show us the way to their over-size parking… Talk about bringing attention to ourselves… But hey - isn’t that the whole point of this journey?

As we checked into the hotel, a couple of additions to our Whistler team, the lovely Ace Mackay-Smith and fav-Whistler DJ Vinyl Ritchie, showed up from the airport to bring the party beats to our PEAK 2 PEAK Party hosted by Kokanee Beer at the Heart and Crown. With these two hitting the turntables, teamed with two lovely Kokanee girls and the infamous Toaster, we belted out another sweet night of Kokanee fun! Amongst the crowd were some original Whistler locals, pretty stoked to get their hands (and taste buds) on some Kokanee, and tell us some old Whistler stories.
